Thanks to all who joined us for the Solar Workgroup ribbon-cutting and gathering to celebrate the new, landmark solar installation at Wise Primary on October 11th, 2022 in Wise, Virginia! The summary is at this link. During this meeting, a panel discussion was held to discuss the opportunities and challenges in solar workforce development and how this solar project on Wise Primary school will be the first of many successes that have been made possible by the ongoing work of the Solar Workgroup and its partners. After the panel discussion, attendees gathered outside for a ribbon-cutting overlooking the school roof and its impressive newly installed solar array. It was a victorious day for the Solar Workgroup of Southwest Virginia. Speakers included Matt McFadden, Secure Futures; Dr. Greg Mullins, former Superintendent of Wise County Public Schools; Dean Rose, Mountain Empire Community College; Chelsea Barnes, Appalachian Voices; Mason Taylor, CTE apprentice; Anthony Hamilton, CTE apprentice; and Josh Kraybill, GOT Electric.
